HIDDEN CARIBBEAN FIGURES.Edit-a-thon with Noircir Wikipédia & Whose Knowledge

A 2-day research and edit event for the Visualizing Caribbean Literature database.

join Create Caribbean Research Institute (CCRI) and the Department of Literatures in English at UWI Mona Campus (DLIE) for a two-day event to improve the Visualizing Caribbean Literature database and to represent Caribbean writers and writing in the Wikipedia space through the VCL Hidden Caribbean Figures Event, March 5-6, 2026.

Visualizing Caribbean Literature is a digital research project that attempts to catalog and represent Caribbean creative writing from 1800-present. The database now includes more than 500 authors and 4,000 texts in original publication, translation, and new editions across more than 50 languages in multiple genres.

The VCL Hidden Caribbean Figures event aims to use the database as a springboard to create more visibility for underrepresented Caribbean writers and their works by editing and adding Wikipedia entries, first in this two-day live event. For this event, CCRI is joining with Whose Knowledge and Noircir Wikipedia, two organizations with vast experience in addressing underrepresentation in the Global South through Wikipedia projects.

We are looking for writers, scholars, librarians, readers, all community members to join us. Come with your knowledge and your enthusiasm. You are welcome to join us in person or online for the two days. Register at link
